Indianapolis Motor Speedway
Passionately known as The Brickyard, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was built over a span of 63 days in the fall of 1909. It took 3.2 million paving bricks to cover the 2.5 mile track. Today, a 36-inch strip of the original bricks is still intact and visible at the start/finish line. From the traditional drinking of the milk, to the kissing of the bricks and every superstition in between, the famed Month of May running of the Indy 500 and other NASCAR events during the year are an important engine (pun intended) for the local economy. There is nothing like the thrill of witnessing a field of 33 cars roar by at speeds over 200 mph.
